I created, hosted and produced the Greek Odyssey program on WJDM-AM (1530) in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1976. I spoke in Greek while sound engineer Thucydides (Duke) Markos spoke in English on the program.
The show first aired on Sunday, April 4, 1976 and was designed to serve the Greek-American community of Central and Northern New Jersey, Staten Island and Brooklyn, New York. It was broadcast from 6 to 7 p.m.
A wide selection of laika (contemporary) and dimotika (folk) music was presented on the program, In addition, the program provided a community calendar of events and features of interest to the Greek-American community.
Commercials on Greek Odyssey cost $18 for one spot per show (60 seconds), $14 for 30 seconds and $9 for 10 seconds. Two spots per show the cost for commercials was $16 (60 seconds), $12 (30 seconds) and $7 (10 seconds).
